If you can imagine it, We can create it!

Here are a couple of projects that we have completed just to show you the quality and workmanship that we put into our rugs at Owens.

How We Do It...

Owens Custom Rugs

Click hereThis is a rug that we created and donated to The Environmental Learning Center. There were many steps and a lot of hours in the making of this rug. In the first picture we drew a turtle to the size that we wanted in the rug. In the second picture we started cutting each shape and then placed it over the carpet with the color for the turtle and then cut out each piece . In the third picture you see the cut pieces from the template inlaid in the body of the turtle. This is the part that took the longest because of such detail in the turtle. We always hand stitch inlays but because of the small sizes of the carpet we hot glued and then applied latex when the rug was finished. Picture four is what the finished turtle looks like before being carved. At this point the turtle is complete and hand stitched to the field of the rug. In picture five we carved all of the inlays and gave the rug a 3-D look. In picture six you see the final product. We hand stitched a white border around the rug to give it a finished look. And there’s your turtle rug!

Custom Twenty Eight Foot Octagon Rug
This rug was fabricated on site at the customers home and tailored to fit the octagon shaped room. We used a Fiberworks carpet, a Merida binding and as the border we used a Fabricia Wool. In picture one we have the carpet laid out to the room and started cutting away excess carpet. In picture two we lined up the diamond pattern and then seamed the two pieces together to make a wide piece. After the rug is cut to the size we want it we start binding the first border with our machine and then glue the binding to the top and bottom of the rug (picture three). In picture four we hand stitch all sides of the rug and then miter the corners and stitch them. In picture five you can see how many times we stitch. It take about six feet of string to stitch two feet of carpet. After we finish stitching we cover the stitches with latex to permanently lock them in place. In picture six you see the finished product. A perfect rug for your perfect room!
